Who does the land belong to? (VIDEO)

The most valuable resource of any state or city is land. However, in the privatization process in Serbia, thanks to the laws which the Serbian Parliament has been passing for years now and to the decisions brought by the City, many individuals and businessmen have obtained valuable land by purchasing struggling factories at low prices. The privatization has turned into a land grab, instead of being a chance for economic recovery. By its decisions, the state literally gave away land to individuals. Everything was in keeping with the law, and the damage to the budget amounted to more than two billion euros in only a few years. Insajder covered this subject in the series “Official Abuse” in 2008. The representatives of the government at that time, the head of which was Mirko Cvetkovic, attempted to contest the facts presented by Insajder, but still decided to change the Law on planning and construction. In that way, they attempted to force some money back into the budget retroactively through the conversion of purpose of the land. One of the topics in the series, after which the law was amended, was the privatization of the Belgrade Port, in which Milan Beko got hold of 220 hectares of valuable land on the bank of the Danube. However, it is still not clear who actually owns that land.
