Nine years since the bomb attack on Anastasijevic

The bomb attack on the Dejan Anastasijevic’s apartment on this day in 2007 was one of the most serious attacks on journalists in the last 10 years and it still hasn’t been resolved. When asked how far the investigation after 9 years is, Supreme Court responded to Insajder.net that “regarding this event, the subject is in the expertise stage”.

In the night between April 13th and April 14th 2007, at the window of Dejan Anastasijevic the bomb was thrown. Luckily, no one got hurt, although a part of the explosive device ended up several inches above the bed of Dejan Anastasijevic and his wife, who were already asleep. Their daughter was on her way home from a birthday party, at the time.

When asked how far the investigation after 9 years is, Supreme Court responded to Insajder.net that “regarding this event, the subject is on the expertise stage”.

A reminder – right after the attack Chief of the Police Milorad Veljovic personally came to the crime scene, PM Vojislav Kostunica gave a sharp statement, Director of BIA Rade Bulatovic made a phone call to Anastasijevic, and Minister of the Internal Affairs Dragan Jocic called “Vreme” newsroom.

President of Serbia Boris Tadic came to the newsroom of the magazine and gave a statement that the event was an “attack on the state”, and announced that he will “demand the investigation and action on the highest level”. Until this day, the investigation has not been completed.

Before the attack, Dejan Anastasijevic got a couple of threatening phone calls, and unknown individuals were asking questions about him in the phone calls made to the Vreme newsroom. There was a doubt that the motives for the bomb attack were connected to his public statements regarding the Scorpions case and the fact that he was a witness of Hague Tribunal. It was never determined for sure what the motives were.

Dejan Anastasijevic, journalist of “Vreme” magazine and former Tanjug correspondent from Brussels, was also a war reporter on the territory of SFRJ in the 90’s. He was a witness of Hague Tribunal in the cases against Milosevic, while right before the attack, he was writing about criminal and war crimes.
