PM Vucic announced his victory, official results still incomplete
The Republic Electoral Commission of Serbia (REC) stated on Sunday that the presidential candidate, current Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, is in the lead with 59.89 per cent of votes.
According to the so far counted 16.84 per cent of ballots, PM Aleksandar Vucic is in the lead with 59.89 per cent of votes, and former Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic came second with 13.12 per cent of votes.
PM Vucic said at the press conference held in Serbian Progressive Party’s (SNS) electoral headquarters, that wining was not easy, but that the results are “clean as a whistle.” He also announced his victory claiming that SNS and its coalition partners counted 81 per cent of voting material and that some 2 million citizens voted for him.
“Our estimation is that we have won some 2 million and 35 thousands votes. Pre-election conditions were not easy for us. I won 12 per cent of votes, which is more than all the other candidates combined”, said PM Vucic.
According to the report by Belgrade based watchdog Bureau for Social Research, PM Vucic had 250 more minutes of TV representation than the other ten presidential candidates combined.
Presidential candidate Sasa Jankovic who, according to the Progressive Party has won 16.2 per cent, said that it is early to comment on the election results since the final results have not yet been announced by the REC.
“Some candidates announced their victory a bit too early, but that is their style.” said Jankovic at the press conference.
