The ruling Progressive Party accuses opponents without evidence

The ruling Serbian Progressive Party continues with a smear campaign against their political opponents labeling them and their families as criminals without any evidence.

The Progressive Party made an official statement on Monday in which they accused Natasa Jeremic, a journalist and wife of a presidential candidate, for controlling the entire drug market in Serbia.

However, in the statement signed by the Vice President of the Progressive Party’s Main Board Milenko Jovanov, no evidence was given to support those claims.

“I was never in contact with narcotics. For ten years, I haven’t even had a glass of wine since we are trying to conceive. I do not know what to expect. Tomorrow, they (ruling party) may plant me drugs. For the first time in my life I am scared because they are capable of anything,” said Natasa Jeremic at the press conference held on Tuesday.

Natasa Jeremic, a longtime journalist for Serbian Radio Television (RTS), is married to the independent presidential candidate Vuk Jeremic. He was the Serbian Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2007 to 2012, and the Chairman of the UN General Assembly from 2012 to 2013.

During the press conference, Natasa Jeremic said that she does not accept the apology of the current PM and presidential candidate Aleksandar Vucic who is also the president of the Progressive Party.

“PM Vucic should be ashamed because he stood behind this statement or at least he knew about it. He should not speak of ‘normal’ Serbia,” said Jeremic.

President of the Progressives Vucic “offered” his apology at the press conference held on Tuesday, claiming that his friend Milenko Jovanov made a mistake.

“In the name of decent and normal Serbia, and in my name, I apologize to all the citizens of Serbia who thought that all of us presidential candidates are the same. We are not the same and my team and I will never offend family members of other candidates,” said Vucic.
